Timeless Truth: Your Moments in time

We’ve looked at timeless truth – moments throughout the Bible that shaped history, given hope to mankind, and hopefully, impacted your life personally. Understanding the truth that fills the pages of Scripture is important because while everything around us may change, God’s promises are timeless – true at all times, no matter what–

Isaiah 40:8 | The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.

We’ve started with a broad overview of our timeline – the events that occurred at creation, the fall of man, Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection, and some of the moments that will happen in the future when God’s people are united with Him in Heaven.

But there’s a part of the timeline that is currently being constructed – one that evolves with each and every breath that you take – it is your part of the timeline – what you did yesterday, what you do today, and what you will do in the future.

  • Before continuing today’s devo, take some time to construct a timeline of your life.

    • What are the most important moments?

    • What are some moments you hope can be placed on your timeline in the future?

    • What will be added to your timeline today?

It can be easy for God’s followers to understand the importance of our Biblical timeline. But what about your part of the timeline? Do you view it as important? To God, it definitely is! First and foremost, our loving Creator desires that you follow Him – that your relationship with Him has been restored because of faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord.

John 3:16 | For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

  • Is there a moment where you chose to follow Jesus on your timeline?

    • If so, when?

    • If not, what are you waiting for?

But the Bible is also clear that the moment of salvation isn’t the only moment in your life that is important to God. In fact, He took great care in creating you because of the other moments in your life that matter.

Ephesians 2:10 | For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

  • God created you for good works – a plan He has for you that you were made for.

    • Does the timeline of your life reflect God’s purpose for you?

      • If so, in what ways?

        • If not, what other purposes have you lived for or are you living for now?

Our challenge to you this week is that your portion of the timeline would be used to bring God glory and to make Him known. This is the purpose God has for you and why you were rescued by Jesus in the first place–

1st Peter 2:9b | For you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

The timeless truth connected to your moments in time is that God made you to know Him, to proclaim Him, and to bring Him glory.

  • Make sure you’ve answered the questions throughout today’s devotional. Then, reflect on these final questions:

    • Think about your timeline – all that has happened and will happen from your birth to your death.

      • Are you being faithful with the time God has given you? In what ways or what needs to change?

      • Will you commit today (and every “today” in the future) to God’s purpose for you? How or why not?
