Jesus taught to put others first: Looking out for the interests of others

Philippians 2:3-5 | Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

  • Restate Philippians 2:3-5’s instructions in your own words.

  • What parts of Philippians 2:3-5 are natural for you? Why?

  • What does thinking of others as better than yourself and looking out for their interests, not just your own, actually look like? How is this done?

    • Can you think of a time someone did this for you – where they put you first? When?

      • Why was this memorable?

      • What did it mean to you or how did it make you feel?

    • Can you think of a time you did this for someone else? When?

    • Can you think of a time you failed to treat someone this way? When?

      • Why did you make the choice to put yourself first?

      • How did this impact the other person?

      • How could a different response have pointed them to Jesus?
