EMPOWERED Love: Love God & Love Others

Matthew 22:36-40 | “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

  • What two commands does Jesus give us to follow? Do you think these commands are easy or difficult (and in what ways)?

  • Why is loving God and loving others so important?

  • Do you think you can not love God and love others OR love God and not love others? Why or why not? [Stay tuned for the answer later this week!]


Loving God: 

  • What does it mean to love God with your -

            • Heart (Think emotions, dreams, passions)

            • Soul (Think what you do, your actions, how you spend your time)

            • Mind (Think about what you believe, think about, your goals)

  • In which of these three areas — heart, soul, and mind — are you loving God well? In which of these three areas are you loving yourself or something/someone else more than God?

Loving Others: 

  • What does it mean to love your neighbor as yourself?

  • Who in your life are you loving well?

  • Who in your life are you not loving well? What can you change?
