Jesus fulfills the law: Subjected to the law

Galatians 4:4-5 | But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.

  • Galatians 4:4-5 makes us consider the timing of Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection. Why might God have chosen that time as the right time?

    • What had already happened?

    • How did the events of the past help make clear the events of Jesus’ life?

  • According to this passage, Jesus was subject to the law.

    • What does this mean?

    • Why was Jesus’ subject to the law?

    • Why did God need to be subject to the law to satisfy the law?

  • How did Christ buy our freedom? What did we need to be freed from?
