4 Soils: The Thorny Soil

1st John 2:15-17 | Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

  • What gets in the way of the thorny soil producing fruit? If you aren’t sure, check out Matthew 13:22.

  • Do you struggle with putting the things of this world in front of your relationship with Jesus? In what ways?

  • What are your priorities or what do you put first? Think about what directs most of your schedule and time.

  • We can be driven by what feels good (physical pleasure), what looks good, (to you and others), success (money, possessions, achievement), or what God wants. How can each of these desires/motivators be seen in your life? Which honestly drives you the most?
