Samson: Tackling Temptation: Loving God or Loving the World

1st John 2:15-17 | Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

  • Why can’t God’s people love God and love sin, or the worldly things they crave?

  • Do you love God or sin more? Why?

  • Do your actions match your answer to the last question? Can people tell that you love God more than sin? If they can’t, why might that be?

  • Temptation comes through 1) What we see 2) What we feel 3) The accomplishments or material possessions we want

      • Give an example of something tempting from each of these areas.

      • In which of these areas are you most tempted? Why?

      • How can you guard against loving these things more than you love God?
