Jesus: Ransomed by the final judge

1st Peter 1:17-20 | And remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites. He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time here as “temporary residents.” For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake.

  • Who will be judged when Christ returns?

  • Do you trust Jesus’ judgment to be fair? Why or why not?

  • Jesus is incredibly invested in our judgment because He paid our ransom.

    • How did Jesus pay our ‘ransom’ or the penalty that we deserved for sin so that we could be set free?

    • If we do not live with Jesus as Lord, what have we done with the ransom He paid?

    • What does living in ‘reverent fear’ mean/look like?

  • What kinds of rewards will there be in Heaven and who is rewarded? [If you’re not sure, read James 1:12, Matthew 5:11-12, Revelation 2:10, Matthew 6:10, 1st Corinthians 9:25-27, 1st Thessalonians 2:19, 1st Timothy 4:7-8, 1st Peter 5:2-4]
