Breastplate of righteousness: By God’s guidance and strength

  • In yesterday’s Bible reading, we saw that people are declared righteous, or right in God’s sight when they put their faith in Jesus as their Savior. Why is it still important for God’s followers to ‘live righteously’ after being ‘declared righteous?’

  • Is it possible for God’s followers to live righteously (purely) by their own strength? Why or why not?

Psalm 119:9-10 | How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you— don’t let me wander from your commands.

Psalm 119:105 | Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.

Psalm 23:3 | He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

  • Who gives the believer the strength to stand firm in the Breastplate of Righteousness by doing what is right?

  • How does God guide the believer to live righteously? How often are you seeking His guidance for right living?

  • Why is it important for God’s followers to stand firm in the battle, committed to righteousness?
