Over the last few weeks, we’ve examined the lives of the patriarchs of Israel - Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel). Genesis 49 tells us that Jacob blesses each of his sons and that-

Genesis 49:28a | These (Jacob’s sons) are the twelve tribes of Israel.

We will continue to see these tribes throughout the Old Testament and the rivalry that existed between the brothers will transfer to a rivalry between the tribes. But for now, Jacob and his sons live in Egypt with Joseph.

Promise Keeper: Jacob- Undeserved Promises: Living like promise holders

While God’s promises don’t depend on us deserving them, we should still strive to live holy because we are receivers of the God’s promises–

2nd Cor. 7:1 | Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.

Promise Keeper: Jacob- Undeserved Promises: When God’s promises seem impossible

Even if you don’t feel it, his promises are true–

This Psalm is written by a man named Ethan who spends the chapter proclaiming God’s faithfulness and His promises to David about an everlasting King. While we don’t know exactly what is going on, things aren’t going well at this time for Israel and Ethan is calling out to God for help. 

Psalm 89:49 | Lord, where is your unfailing love? You promised it to David with a faithful pledge.
