Othniel: The Holy Spirit’s Focus

John 16:7-8 | But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate (Helper/Holy Spirit) won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.

  • Who went away so the Holy Spirit could come?

  • How might things have been different before the Holy Spirit was given to all of God’s followers?

  • According to John 16:7-8, what three things does the Holy Spirit do?

  • We’ve learned that the Holy Spirit gives us new lives, full of fruit, or characteristics that reflect Jesus. Does this match conviction of sin, righteousness, or coming judgment?

  • Why does the Holy Spirit convict of sin? How has He done this to you in the past?

  • What is the “coming judgment?” How are you responding to the Holy Spirit’s conviction about eternity (in your life and in the lives of others)?
