Take it captive.

Philippians 4:8 | And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Often times when we find ourselves worrying, fearful, frustrated, or confused, we are fixing our thoughts on the wrong things. Our passage from Philippians tells us to fix our thoughts. To fix means we “fasten securely in a particular place or position;” or to “decide or settle on.”

  • How do we know what is true?

  • What do you find yourself thinking about most often?

  • When our thoughts are not true, what should we do?

2 Corinthians 10:5 | We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ…

  • What does it mean to take something captive?

  • What thoughts do you need to take captive? What things do you think about that are untrue, dishonorable, or impure?

  • What things do you think about that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and admirable?

Philippians 4:8 tells us to take EVERY thought captive. Every thought we think should be brought to the obedience of Christ. We are to think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise - and those too should be in obedience to Christ.

Psalm 126:3 | Yes, the LORD has done amazing things for us! What joy!

Luke 1:49 | For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me.

Psalm 31:19 | How great is the goodness you have stored us for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world.

  • Are you giving Him the praise for the great things He has done?
