Faith is your legacy

To finish out our week of learning all about Ruth’s faithfulness, we’re going to look at how we still see the fruit of her faith today! First, we have to understand how Ruth’s son connects to us now.

Ruth 4:17-22 “The neighbor woman said, ‘Now at last Naomi has a son again!’ And they named him Obed. He became the father of Jesse and the grandfather of David.

This is the genealogical record of their ancestor Perez: Perez was the father of Hezron.
Hezron was the father of Ram.
Ram was the father of Amminadab.

Amminadab was the father of Nahshon. Nashon was the father of Salmon. Salmon was the father of Boaz.
Boaz was the father of Obed.

Obed was the father of Jesse. Jesse was the father of David.”

Did you catch all that? Ruth is the great-great-grandmother of King David! What’s the big deal about that?

Matthew 1:5-6,16
“Salmon was the father of Boaz (whose mother was Rahab).
Boaz was the father of Obed (whose mother was Ruth).
Obed was the father of Jesse.
Jesse was the father of King David...
Jacob was the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Mary gave birth to Jesus, who is called the Messiah.”

Now we can connect the dots to see that Ruth’s remarkable faith left major marks we still see today: the birth of Jesus! Eternal life and salvation from our sins, offered to the whole world through Jesus’ perfect sacrifice on the cross! Not only do we still benefit

GREATLY from Ruth’s faithfulness, but God also gave her the honor of being in the Messiah’s (Jesus’) bloodline. That’s crazy!!

Ruth’s faithfulness lasted generations and God still allows us to learn from her so we can try to walk out deep-rooted faith in our own lives. In our faithfulness and obedience to Him, God will bless us just like He blessed Ruth.

Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to Him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.”

Questions:

  • How does Ruth’s son connect to us today?

  • What did her faithfulness have to do with that?

  • How can you allow the Holy Spirit to grow the fruit of faithfulness in your life today? (Go about our work with joy and contentment, being loyal to those we love, being loyal to God and His Word, giving glory to God is everything we do, trusting His promises, and praising Him for His mighty power and abundant blessings!)
