ALLEGIANCE - As Citizens of Heaven

Philippians 3:20-21 | But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

  • What is a citizen? Think about what it means to be an “American” (citizen). What does it mean to be a Christian or “Citizen of Heaven?”

  • How does someone become a citizen of heaven?

  • How does a citizen show their allegiance or devotion to the place they belong to?

  • What does a citizen of heaven care about according to Philippians 3:20? How is this different from citizens of earth?

Hebrews 11:13b | They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth.

  • Last week we read many accounts from Hebrews 11 about people with Unstoppable Faith. Hebrews 11:13 is written about these men and women of faith and says that each of them realized they were just temporary citizens of Earth. Their permanent citizenship was in Heaven. How did this mindset impact their faith and ability to be used by God?

  • What about you? Do you invest more in your temporary life here on earth or your eternal life in Heaven? In what ways? What does this show about your allegiance? What could you change?
