Distractions: Anger/Unforgiveness

Ephesians 4:26-27 | And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.”Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

2nd Corinthians 2:5-11 | I am not overstating it when I say that the man who caused all the trouble hurt all of you more than he hurt me. Most of you opposed him, and that was punishment enough. Now, however, it is time to forgive and comfort him. Otherwise he may be overcome by discouragement. So I urge you now to reaffirm your love for him. I wrote to you as I did to test you and see if you would fully comply with my instructions. When you forgive this man, I forgive him, too. And when I forgive whatever needs to be forgiven, I do so with Christ’s authority for your benefit, so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.

  • While it isn’t a sin to feel angry, when does anger become a sin or a problem?

  • How does anger give a “foothold” to the devil, or create a weak spot for him to attack?

  • What does Paul instruct the Corinthians to do to the person who hurt them? Why?

  • Have you given Satan a foothold by holding on to anger or unforgiveness?

    • If so, with whom or over what?

    • Will you lay it down so that you’re not distracted by it any longer? Why or why
