Jesus loved God by obeying Him: When you don’t want to obey

Mark 14:35-36 | He went on a little farther and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by. “Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

  • In this passage, Jesus is praying about something God asked Him to do. What hard thing did God ask of Jesus?

  • Do you think Jesus felt like obeying in this passage? Why or why not?

  • Have you ever not felt like obeying? When and why?

  • Even though Jesus didn’t feel like obeying because of the difficulty of God’s instructions, how did He still show a heart of obedience in His prayer?

What can you learn from Jesus’ example? Specifically, what should you do when you don’t feel like obeying?
