Jesus loved God by obeying Him: A heart of disobedience

John 14:23-24 | Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me.”

  • According to Jesus, who obeys? Who doesn’t obey?

  • If a person has a heart of disobedience (always wanting to go their own way instead of God’s way), what might it show about their relationship with God or their salvation?

  • Spend some time searching your own heart (ask God to help!).

    • Do you see a heart of obedience or disobedience?

    • Do you see a heart that truly loves God or does not?

      • If you don’t have a heart that loves God and obeys, what needs to be done?

      • If you have a heart that loves God, but still struggles to obey, what needs to be done? Who can help?

  • According to John 14:23-24, the person who loves God has God with them (the Holy Spirit).

    • How can the Holy Spirit help you obey?

    • If we ignore the Holy Spirit, do you think obedience is still possible? Why or why not?

    • Are you relying on the direction and power of the Holy Spirit in your fight for obedience? In what ways or why not?
