Be on guard.

2 Corinthians 10:5 | We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ…

Colossians 3:2 | Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth

Taking our thoughts captive and setting our minds on things above aren’t “one and done” check the box, and it’s finished type things. It is a daily part of our walk with the Lord. When we understand how important it is and begin these disciplines, we must be careful to guard our hearts and our minds to keep them in obedience to Jesus.

Proverbs 4:23 | Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

2 Timothy 2:22 | Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.

Psalm 119: 9-16 | How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you— don’t let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. I praise you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. I have recited aloud all the regulations you have given us. I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches. I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word.

  • What does it mean to guard our hearts? What guards do you put in place?

  • Who do you have who helps you stay diligent in guarding your heart?

  • Are there things and/or people in your life that cause you to stumble in your walk with the Lord? How can you intentionally guard against these issues?
